Before the appearance of the Tokyo death god and the detective agency uncle who had been pricked by hypnotic needles hundreds of times, there was a work titled “City Wind and Cloud” which was quite popular in the past and was also known as “Nine Dragon Pearls.” What is less known is that this work, like the globally popular “Detective Conan,” was also created by the author Gosho Aoyama.
Today, the television animation version of “Zhen·Wushiduan YAIBA” is being remade and has officially announced its new appearance in April 2025.
Earlier, we discussed the voice actor lineup for the three main characters, Tie Jian, Sha Ye Jia, and Gui Wan Meng, who are brilliantly voiced by Nan Takayama, Masanaka Iwami, and Yoshimasu Hosoya.
What’s exciting is that in the latest released PV2, more characters make an appearance, including the main character’s father, Tie Jian Jiu Lang, voiced by the experienced voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi. Additionally, there’s a legendary swordsman with the appearance of a wise man, Miyamoto Musashi, played by voice actor Junichi Suwabe. The character design is excellent, and the sound effects and performances are highly anticipated.
Back in 1988, “YAIBA” was first serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday,” with a total of 255 episodes published, and a television animation version was released in 1993.
The story revolves around a boy named Tetsuken, who perseveres with the dream of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman.
Although the story is set in modern society, it undoubtedly contains references to the legends of famous Japanese swordsmen, such as Miyamoto Musashi, Sasaki Kojirō, and Yagyu Jūbē, blending the charm of history with modernity. However, the most captivating character is undoubtedly the protagonist, Tiejian himself.
The all-new version of “True Samurai Legend YAIBA” is produced by the powerful animation company WITSTUDIO and will be broadcast nationwide from April on Yomiuri TV and the Nippon Television Network.
Thirty years later, this remake is not only a tribute to the memories of those who were in grades 6 and 7 years ago but also showcases the essence of this classic work for new audiences. The original creator, Gosho Aoyama, has personally supervised the project to ensure the quality and consistency of the storyline. He stated that whether new viewers or old fans, the remake is worth watching because its plot and character development are exceptional.
In addition, during the airing schedule for the new animation in April 2025, “True Samurai Legend YAIBA” is set to air at 5:30 PM, followed immediately by “Detective Conan” at 6 PM.
Audiences can perfectly immerse themselves in the wonderful world and unique storytelling style created by Gosho Aoyama within an hour. This double feature arrangement undoubtedly provides an excellent immersive experience for fans and is sure to become one of the highlights of the spring season. Let’s look forward to the magnificent return of this classic work!
