On July 23, 2024, a Japanese netizen shared his astonishing find while hiking: a 40-year-old can of Coke. The netizen, known as “とりちゃん” (Tori-chan), posted on platform X on July 21, describing how he stumbled upon this vintage Coke can while climbing Mount Kitadake Kaikoma.
The photos he shared show the can’s design, which exudes a strong retro vibe, and it appeared slightly worn.
Vintage Find Raises Eyebrows and Bubbles
Tori-chan noted that the pull-tab opening of the can suggests it was produced around the 1980s, indicating the Coke might be about 40 years old. He later posted a video of himself opening the can, to his surprise, it still contained bubbles. He even drank from it and reported no adverse effects.
A Stirred Online Debate
The post sparked widespread discussion. Many were amazed at the durability of the Coke, commenting, “That’s incredible!” and “It’s still in perfect condition!” Some tried to explain, “Coke is an acidic beverage with a pH value of 2.2, which might help it resist spoiling.”
However, others were shocked that he dared to drink it, exclaiming, “You actually drank it!” and “Didn’t it upset your stomach?” Some likened the old Coke can to a natural time capsule, describing it as a vintage beverage akin to aged wine or whiskey.
